Web Development is one of the demandable skills right now. And today’s young people want to be a Web Developer. Most of the young people want to learn web development because of the huge level of earning. That’s correct.

In the world, every single day around 800,000 new businesses start, and over 300 million businesses start in a single year. Almost 250,000 to 300,000 new websites are created per day in the world — that’s like 3 websites in one second. There are 30 million web developers worldwide. But still, the demand is huge. Before 2030, the global market will need 50 million web developers. So, people would like to make a career in this field. Also, how the technology is going, Web Development is essential for every single business, and for the business, you have to hire web developers to make a website.

But unfortunately, young people try to learn web development with craziness and high-level motivation. But after some days or for some reasons — especially due to some bad habits — they can’t succeed.
There are 10 to 20 million people trying to learn Web Development every single year. But do you know, just 5 to 15% of people can finish their course or become a junior Web Developer? This is very unfortunate for us.
Web Development is not an easy thing that you can learn in some weeks. If it’s easy, then everyone can learn it. If you want to be special, then you have to do hard work with some more important qualities and also need to remove bad habits from your life.
I will explain the top 10 bad habits that you have to remove as early as possible if you want to learn Web Development. Let’s explain.

Table of Contents

Skipping the Fundamentals

There are a lot of people who learned web development but they can’t survive because of their fundamental knowledge. They just skip fundamentals, so they can’t understand how to do complex things and even simple things, but unique. If your fundamental knowledge is average, trust me, you can’t surviv,e and you can’t do any unique, creative, complex code — and even you can’t understand the code.

Fundamentals are like your building foundation. Just imagine, if your building foundation is not good, would you like to stay in that building? NO!

So, how much time does it take? You don’t need to care. Just focus on the specific things and learn fundamentals properly. If you understand how the code works, then you can easily write code for targeted functionalities. Make an advanced-level foundation with fundamentals. Then, you will see your next steps in Web Development will be super easy.

So, never ever skip the Fundamentals.

Avoiding Practice

I think you know practice makes a man perfect. If you spend so much time watching web development tutorials and reading blogs, trust me, you will forget everything. You can’t learn anything from that until you practice it. You have to practice the code, then your learning process will grow. When you practice, you will get a lot of errors, and when you fix those errors, trust me, it makes the topic easier for you and you can remember it. Watching videos or reading blogs is forgotten in just a few minutes. Without practice, no one can be an expert in anything. You have to practice every single tutorial or documentation.

Real learning happens when you practice. And the most important practice will be: what you learn, try to make a simple project with that. That will make your learning progress better.

Being Afraid to Make Mistakes

Mistakes are part of learning. If you don’t make mistakes, you can’t learn. The one who makes more mistakes will learn more. If you are afraid to make mistakes and avoid them, trust me, you can’t be a Web Developer.

You should not be afraid when you see errors or any bugs. You should be happy instead of afraid. Because the next step will be fixing the errors. When you try to fix the errors, you will research, analyze a lot of important things, and learn a lot of important things that will help you fix the errors and also make your code better.

I know when we see problems in real life, most of the time we get afraid, and exactly like that, in web development, we face the same thing. But when you set up your mind and fix errors regularly, it will become your enjoyable process of Web Development. But still, if you don’t like it, do it against your lazy mind.

Hope you understand.

Avoiding Documentation

I think avoiding documentation is one of the major problems in the web development learning journey. More than 95% of students avoid this, even though their instructor always says, “Please read the documentation.” But they try to find YouTube videos instead of reading documentation. And most of the time, they get their targeted solution from YouTube videos. But this is a really, really bad practice for learning web development. Because in the long run, you will face a lot of unique and complex issues, and you won’t find the solution in any video.

You will get solutions to any type of issue from the documentation.

Reading documentation is really boring. From the beginning, you can read simple documents, short documents. When it becomes your daily routine, then day by day you will see that you understand the documentation.

Even if you can’t understand the documentation, still you should just read the document, and after some days, try the documentation code in your code editor. This way, you will get used to reading documentation.

If you become an expert in finding solutions from documentation, trust me, you will be a great web developer.

For the beginning learning period, I recommend reading the documentation in your free time. Remember, without documentation, you can’t survive in your web development career for the long run. So, start reading documentation from today.

Being Afraid to Ask for Help

Most beginners think that if they ask something and it sounds weird, people will laugh at them. It’s totally wrong.

Web developers are not like others. They always love to help people, grow the community, and make a good impact on others’ careers.

You can ask anything, but you need to explain it. If you can’t explain it, you can take a screen recording and share it with them. Trust me, everyone will assist you.

Join web development communities like Facebook groups, Stack Overflow, Discord, or popular forums in your country.

Don’t hesitate to ask anything. Look, you are asking something that will help you learn web development, so why should you be afraid? Just ask without any overthinking. When you see the answer from them, trust me, you will get a best friend from the web development community.

Comparing Yourself to Others

I know you see your friends or other people’s posts or reels where they say they learned web development in 3 months, or someone is earning huge dollars every month, or someone who easily understands the code. If you follow these, you will get depressed.

On social media, you just see people’s success, not their struggles or hard work.

If you compare yourself to others, you will get depressed and can’t be successful. You don’t need to be like someone else. You are a unique person and you have your own style to be a successful web developer. So, just focus on yourself and follow your learning process.

Celebrate every small milestone you complete. Always avoid those things that can make you depressed, demotivated, and lazy.

Be confident, work hard, and learn with consistency. You will become a top-level web developer, my friend.

Lack of Consistency

Consistency is the main quality that you need to follow to learn anything in your life. Without consistency, you can’t learn any skills in your life. And it’s guaranteed.
Web Development is not like you will learn today and then learn again after 2 days. If you do it this way, you will forget all the things that you learned before. Even if you have very important work, spend at least 30 minutes to 1 hour for web development learning.
If you are consistent, the learning process will be consistent and you will not forget the things that you learn. Consistency will make your web development journey a regular habit in your life.

Sometimes, you will see the code in your dream and you will fix it in your dream as well. Just joking.
So, be consistent and make your web development learning the best habit in your life.

Following Too Many Instructors

For the beginning stage, this is the mistake some students make. If you follow more than one instructor, you will get confused. Because everyone has a different type of teaching style. So this way, you will get demotivated and leave this journey.
So, select the best instructor and follow his instruction, follow his course, and focus on one course. After you become an expert in any specific thing, then you can watch other instructor’s videos or read documentation to learn the same thing in a different style.

So, focus on one course. Just follow what your instructor teaches you. Never try to learn one thing from different places at the same time.

Rushing to Learn Everything Quickly

When you are coming to learn web development, you are so motivated and excited and already decided you will learn web development in 3 months and earn money and buy a house, car, etc.
It’s totally wrong. Don’t even think this way.

If you learn in a rush, you will forget all the things and you will not understand any topic.
You should learn one topic at a time. After one topic is completed and you understand it, then you will go to the next topic.

In web development, if you skip one topic and move to the next one, you will face problems in future learning, coding, and for projects. In web development, every single topic is important and connected with each other.

I recommend enrolling in any best web development course where you will learn everything in a sorted and organized method.

Not Being Honest About Your Progress

Honesty is one of the essential qualities for Web Developers. If you learn web development and face any errors and, without finding the solution yourself, use AI, trust me, you can’t be a web developer.

If you lie when your teacher asks, “Did you understand this lesson?” and you say yes, you can’t be a web developer.

If you do the assignment using AI, you can’t be a web developer.

You have to ignore AI help in the beginning of your web development learning. If you can’t understand something, try to understand it in a different way. Ask your instructor, watch the videos, or read the documentation. This way, you will learn real web development.

If you are dishonest, it means you are being dishonest with yourself, and you are harming yourself, not anyone else. So, make sure you are an honest person before you start learning web development.

I hope I have explained the 10 bad habits that obstruct you from becoming a web developer. Before you start learning web development, you should reflect on these 10 bad habits and set your mind to avoid including any of them in your journey.

So, be honest, consistent, confident, and work hard. I hope you will become a web developer very soon. Comment below if this blog helped you. Thank you. Good luck.
